Antique GAR Civil War Reunion Ribbon 90th Ohio Volunteer Infantry OVI Veteran Photo Whitehead & Hoag

$260.00 $325.00

Original antique Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Civil War reunion ribbon, commemorating service in the 90th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (O.V.I.), and manufactured by The Whitehead & Hoag Co. of Newark, New Jersey.

The Grand Army of the Republic was the national fraternal organization of Union Civil War veterans, and ribbons such as this were produced for post-war reunions, encampments, and commemorative gatherings held in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This silk ribbon prominently displays “90th Regiment O.V.I.”, identifying the unit as the 90th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, a Union regiment that served during the American Civil War. The top bar is marked “61” and “65,” referencing the years 1861–1865, the duration of the Civil War.

The ribbon includes an original printed photographic portrait of a Civil War veteran, mounted in a decorative medallion at the center. While the individual veteran is unidentified, portrait imagery was commonly used on GAR reunion ribbons to honor service and remembrance among surviving soldiers.

The reverse retains its original Whitehead & Hoag paper manufacturer’s label, confirming authenticity and period manufacture. Whitehead & Hoag were a primary supplier of GAR badges, ribbons, and patriotic ephemera.

Measures approximately 7.25 inches long x 2.5 inches wide. The ribbon was previously pinned to a backing board for shadow box display; no pin holes pass through the silk ribbon itself. Condition reflects honest age and history, including surface wear, fading, and fragility to the original paper label. No restoration has been attempted.

A historically important and highly collectible piece of GAR Civil War veteran memorabilia, valued for its identified regiment, veteran portrait, and confirmed period maker.
